Today all come with a larger rear axle which has made the bikes much more stable. They have also spent time on improving the mounting of the engines within the motorcycles. Today all Harley Davidson engines are mounted on to rubber that is placed on the frame and this reduces the amount of vibration the rider will feel.

The other main changes that have been made on all the Sportster models and not just the 883 ones is that have a belt drive rather than a chain drive. They come with helical cut transmission gears, which has resulted in a reduction in the amount of gear whine they produce. Then this year they changed the bikes from being carburetted models instead all of the bikes in the range now have a fuel-injected engine instead.
