GM recalls 50,000 SUVs in northern states

April 17th, 2012

In a rare regionally-targeted recall campaign, General Motors Business is asking the owners of some of its crossover SUVs from various divisions to bring in their automobiles and have the windshield wipers looked at. Just those owners who live in the northern states will be impacted.

Only colder region vehicles included

The problem stems from a nut that holds the windshield wiper arm in place. The recall affects only those owners in colder regions because chilly and ice can possibly can loosen the nut and impact the operation of the wiper arm.

GM divisions recalling

The recall affects over 50,000 crossover SUVs from three different GM divisions. Owners of the 2011 and 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave or GMC Acadia vehicles who live in the District of Columbia, or any of the 28 states targeted by the recall campaign, can expect to get recall notices beginning on April 16.

Only in 28 states

Alaska, Colorado, CT, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming are all the states incorporated in the recall.

In excess of factory specs

The defect has not caused any incidents, as far as GM knows, and the company promises to tighten the arms for free for impacted owners. Owners just have to go to an authorized dealership to have it done.

The world’s largest-selling automaker also claims that, if requested by an owner, it will even tighten the windshield wiper arm nuts on affected vehicles not in the targeted areas, free of charge.

How you can contact

Those who are interested in learning more about the recall campaign are encouraged to call the National Highway Traffic Security Administration at 888-327-4236 and ask about recall campaign #12V151000. Those who wish to speak to the car maker directly, however, can call Buick at 800-521-7300, Chevrolet at 800-222-1020 or GMC at 800-462-8782.

Some Awesome Car Buying Tips

August 23rd, 2011

Don’t be frightened to barter. I have some buying a car tips that may help you to gain the edge when you go to buy your next automobile. Car dealerships want to take your money and you do Not have to give it all away! Purchase a car on YOUR terms.

1. Leasing an automobile will lose you money –There are very few scenarios where leasing a vehicle makes sense. However , car salesperson will try and convince you to lease a car with low regular payments. Do not fall for this trick.
2. Don’t pay the doc fee –If they tell you you have to pay the doc charge, wait until the very end when you're about to sign, and then tell them that you want them to take off the charge or you will walk! Be ready to walk!
3. Don't let them switch cars on you –A great trick's to try and get you into a different car than the one you came to have a look at. Why? Because they know you probably did the research on the car you came to the lot for. Don't let them switch cars on you, or you’ll lose money and still not be in the automobile you wanted!
4. You do not have to finance with the agency. Check prices for the top deal. It may be time-consuming it can help to save you cash.
5. Don’t play the trade-in game. Don’t try and hold the trade till the end. They know it’s coming and are ready for it.
6. Don't make pals. The sales rep might like the same soccer team that you do, may have sweet kids in his photograph and might tell amusing jokes. But he is also going to take your money. Don't let yourself get befriended by people you will not ever see again. Be all business.
7. Don't buy on the 1st trip. This is an elemental rule. If you think you have a good deal, go home and research it. You can always buy the day after.

These buying a car tips will help you to gain the upper hand the next time you are at the car dealership.

But there are many other tricks reserved. Some vehicle purchasers are so fearful of haggling that they're going to go to “no-haggle” car lots and lose many thousands of bucks purchasing insanely expensively priced cars!

What you need to remember is that used and new automobile managers and salesperson are continually coming up with more methods to get additional cash out of you.

In this struggling economy, they're selling less cars and are desperate. But this indicates that they are going to attempt to get the most out of every single buyer! Be certain, that right now automobile lots are pulling out each trick in the book to get you in a new auto at a price you shouldn't be paying.

Car and Truck Alternators

February 17th, 2010

Auctions can often be a great place to look for a car or truck under $1000. Local public auctions are generally advertised in the newspaper or on the radio. Dealer, wholesale and estate auctions are also good local sources. Online auctions can be found on Co Part, craigslist, and eBay.

If you own an alternator testing machine, you can test to see whether your car\’s alternator is charging correctly. For most people this isn\’t practical as few motorists own such an expensive piece of equipment.

One of the best things you can do to help increase your automotive safety is to learn defensive driving. A lot of defensive driving is really a matter of common sense and courtesy, nonetheless courses can be taken to improve your driving skills.

If there is an increase in voltage when you start your car, then your alternator is more than likely working just fine. Likely, you battery is the culprit; check the battery itself and the connections to make a final determination.

If there is no increase in voltage, you are likely looking at having to replace your alternator. The next step, of course, is to determine whether you will replace the alternator yourself or have someone else do the job. Some things to keep in mind as you weigh your options include:

If you trust your vehicle to a mechanic, what will the total cost of the work be including the part and labor? Is there a guarantee?

Then again, it is important not to overlook the most important factors in car safety: wearing your seatbelt and making sure that your car is in good operating order.

If you are in a crash, your chance of survival, according to some experts, more than doubles if you are wearing your seatbelt. And one of the leading preventable causes of tragic car accidents is a car that is inadequately maintained and fails because its equipment fails. Be conscious of car safety and don\’t drive on bald tires or a misaligned or failing suspension.

Don\’t put off that oil change and risk having that engine seize up on you! Above all, your car safety is your safety, so don\’t put your life on the line just because you haven\’t gotten around to getting those necessary services for your car!

With a luxury car rental, we can become a reality. We don’t have to have be a special event after all, before we get a luxury car rental. Simply driving down the road in one for the fun of it, is a good enough reason to rent one for a day; or couple of days even.

Wherever we are around the globe, we can get a luxury car rental of our choice anytime we want to.

Online, we can find a good selection of car rental websites that offer luxury cars to anywhere of the globe. Any type or model that we want, these websites can provide them for us. But, lest we get too excited about getting a luxury car rental, we must first check out a couple of car rentals so we can have the best offer that will suit our budget.

We will find that renting a luxury car online has many benefits aside from not having to leave the comforts of our homes in order to hire this kind of car. Firstly, rental car costs are relatively cheaper online than in actual car rental agencies.

One other advantage of renting on the internet is that the vehicle may be delivered to anywhere we are located or at the closest pick-up point instead of going to the rental office which can be too much of a hassle particularly if we are hiring a car in a foreign place.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WITH LUXURY CAR RENTALS

There are some things that we have to consider when hiring a car, particularly luxury cars. First of all, what type of insurance should we get together with our car rental. Since we will be liable for the car during the period that we are renting it, we have to make sure that if something untoward happen, we won’t need to recompense for anything.

B. Hansson is in love with fast cars and cool motorcycles. When he is not testing the coolest wheels around, he writes about luxury car rental and other exciting things on his site.
